Frequently Asked Questions:

The Strong Interest Inventory and the MBTI

What is the Strong Interest Inventory Assessment and the MBTI?

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is the most highly-respected personality inventory across industries.

The Strong Interest Inventory (commonly referred to as Strong) was created in 1927 by the US military. It is an instrument developed by a team of psychologists and social scientists to match professionals with work environments. Your Strong report offers 19 pages of individual information on specific aspects of your personality to guide your career choices. The assessment is regularly checked and revised to match the current workplace environment.

How does the Strong and the MBTI help career transitions?

Both the MBTI and the Strong Individual reports act as mirrors, helping you to look both inward and outward. The Strong shows your answers in comparison to the answers of thousands of others and ranks you in relationship to them. For example, your personal Strong report can help you understand if you will thrive in a large, impersonal work environment or if you need a more intimate, fluid workplace.

How do you utilize the Strong assessment and MBTI as my career coach?

As a coach, I need as much information and, as many snapshots of you as possible to effectively guide you. The STRONG offers information that goes deeper than your resume or LinkedIn profile for a strategic plan.

Are there any other benefits from working with a Strong report?

Yes — there are several. The Strong is also a kind of “well-being” report. The report helps you identify important areas of interest that may not fit into your professional role but are also important to you. Learning about these areas can help you to prioritize them. For example, you may have a deep interest in writing, but that activity may fall outside your professional role. For your well-being, it may be important for you to save time and resources to take a writing class and make sure that writing is an integral part of your day-to-day life.

Patient Experience

“Patient Experience” is a newly defined area of focus in healthcare. Since 1999, when the IOM offered a groundbreaking industry report, “To Err is Human; Building a Safer Health Care System,” clinicians and administrators have re-considered and re-designed healthcare systems. The work remains to consider and design how patients interact with these systems. McArdle Consulting Workshops work through real life scenarios to improve the patient experience.
